Great little tool for cutting

I absolutely love this chorded small circular saw. I have a small garage that I do work in from time to time on projects and my large tools are always either buried by stuff that's been thrown on them by my kids and spouse or they are just huge and hard to move around. this saw is light weight for a saw. it is easy to carry and store on a shelf. the blades are great and easy to exchange if and when I need to. it works great. I love that it has a laser light to help me keep my lines straight as I cut. the blades are good quality and when they do dull I can just sharpen them. good power, not too loud but you should always wear gloves and hearing protection as well as a mask when using power tools. I love it.

It's about time! Compact Saw!

This is a powerful little saw that comes loaded with accessories. I was able to crosscut with no lag or variation in power and it seemed as if the rpm's continued to perform. You will get all in the ad and they are very helpful. Extra handle and guide that really helps maintain direction. I can't speak about the vacuum accessories as I do not use them. Safety is built into the saw as you use the trigger and on/off switch. With the handles attached I was able to complete some of the most accurate cut I have ever made. I've been working with Masonite and older type of laminates. This ad is accurate, and I have to give DOVAMAN 5 out of 5 stars.

Convenient Little Saw

This corded 4 1/2" mini circular saw is a convenient little unit. It feels good to handle and the power is nice. The overall build is strong, and I expect it to last a long time. Swapping out the blades is an easy process. Setting the blade depth is clear and sure. You can cut materials up to 1 11/16th inches thick. So, it works fine on standard 2 x 4’s. Setting the bevel angle is simple too and it provides a good clean cut. It also has a feature I have not had on a mini circular saw before and that is the laser guide. It took just a little understanding, but it really is a nice addition. Now that I have it, I wouldn’t want a saw without it. It would have been nice if they had included a case or tool bag for it, but I will just have to pick one up. I like this saw and I am very happy to have it in my tool collection. It does a good job.

A good saw - with some weight difficulty.

Okay for the cost. This is a cord powered 4½" circular saw. It has plenty of power. I only tested on some wood pieces so far, but the cut was quick and smooth. The saw is a bit loud, I recommend hearing protection will this [or any] electric saws. [Eye protection too!]
I find this saw unbalanced and hard to hold. Pushing the safety button and then the trigger is cumbersome, even difficult. It made my wrist ache.
It comes with one wood blade mounted and five other blades in the box. [see pics] It also has an edge guide [simple,] a handle for two handed use, and a connector for duct collection.
A good saw - with some weight difficulty.

Versatile/

Received this item today and used it to cut outlet notches in a bookcase. It worked extremely well. The saw cut through 3/4" select pine easily. The cut was smooth with no tear out and requiring little sanding. Cut depth and bevel are easy to adjust. The laser guide keeps your cut on line. It took me a few tries to fully understand when to end a cut on a notch, so I recommend using test cuts to get used to the saw. Also, the separate handle attachment is helpful. It helps stabilize the saw during the cut. It attaches to the top of the saw behind the blade.

Despite being much smaller than a standard circular saw, this item is fairly heavy, similar to the weight of a jig saw. It feels solid in your hand. The materials feel like they will hold up. I did use the alignment attachment and recommend it for rip cuts. It's not as accurate as a track saw but the beauty of this device is it takes almost no set up time, will get into places a track saw or larger circular saw cannot, and is perfect for trim work. It is corded, which I prefer because I have enough batteries as is.

There is value in this item if it's your only power saw or if it's one of many. It cut 6" X 3/4" notches today, something my miter saw, table saw, circular saw couldn't do. I did not attempt this today but can see the small diameter blade size being perfect for plunge cuts in the center of a sheet. This could save big time if I can avoid making templates. I do recognize that with larger plywood sheets this saw won't deliver the same accuracy as a track saw but I don't believe that's the intent. If this is your only power saw, it will accomplish a lot. Creating lap joints, trim work, picture frames, cross cutting, shorter rip cuts, shelves ......

The dust removal nozzle is a nice feature and this saw produces a bit of sawdust. The instructions were actually quite thorough and a the extra blades were a pleasant surprise.

There is no case, which works for me but you may want to consider a storage location for the saw and accessories. I also did not test the saw on hardwoods co I can't speak to that. With the ease of the cut on Pine though I'm guessing this saw will work with hardwoods.

This is a versatile device that feels durable and will make a nice addition to any shop. I know it will get use in mine because of the quick setup time.

It's almost 5 star, if not for one important problem. Well important to me.

So this saw is great. I've had it for awhile and I've used it on various things. It's also nice that it includes a set of blades for various things. It comes with the little thing so you can use it along the side of a straight board too, though I didn't try that. One thing that really shines big time on this is the laser guide. A lot of things will say "laser" but it'll just be an led light. This is truly a laser. It shines about 3-4' down a board pretty clearly, and the saw has always been right in step with the laser. So for all of that stuff, I'd say its 5 star.
My problem is with the handle. I often have to use the handle when I'm sawing things on the floor and whatnot, to make sure I don't lose control of the saw. It's an integral part of many people's safety and feeling of safety. And what do you do with a handle? You grip it all the way, all the way in your hand. With this saw though, the stupidest flaw exists. The handle, when mounted for use in the left hand, makes it so that as the safety guide on the saw comes up, it gets blocked by your hands/fingers. You have to either move your thumb out of the way, or move your entire hand up the grip sticking some of it off of the end. Totally dumb. Could be solved by just making the handle stick out another 1/2-3/4". For that mistake I remove a star, because its such a glaring one.

Perfect tool for thin material

This 4 ½ inch circular saw by DOVAMAN makes working with thin materials so much easier than using a full sized circular saw. For example, it’s an absolute joy to use on composite flooring as the serious reduction in weight makes it so much easier to cut a flexible material. The saw is very comfortable to use once started, but I find the interlock button (safety button) for the trigger to be in an extremely awkward position when starting the saw, and I have large hands. It’s just not positioned correctly. Having to look down at the handle each time I start the saw is a design flaw. But I will readily admit that it is the only flaw I have found with the otherwise excellent tool. The one superlative feature I found on this saw is the laser. I have a few tools that use lasers for aligning the tool on the work piece, but this is the only one that has a laser that came correctly aligned from the factory. My compliments to DOVAMAN!

Works great but not for lefties

Tested this out on a 2x8 and the saw performed well, cutting straight, smooth, and very quick. So far the only issue I have is it's a bit awkward to use if you're left-handed due to the safety feature on the handle. Aside from that, so far this has some serious value with the included blades, other accessories, and laser guide.

Handy compact circular saw.

The Dovaman MCS01A 4 1/2" circular saw is a worthwhile addition to one's tool crib especially if used with better quality blades than what's included.

I found the control layout and balance to be good. The trigger lock is easy to access and the grip allows for accurate cutting given a steady hand or guide.

The laser seemed to be accurate when I used another laser level to line up the saw to the projected line. The laser is battery operated and has a separate switch for activation. At first I found this to be awkward but it is useful for pre checking a cut path in certain circumstances. The red beam is not all that bright and I wish it was green but still not a bad feature.

Using an optical tachometer I found the speed not quite up to specs but the cuts were OK and the motor torque is adequate for cutting pressure treated 2X4s. I did not think the included blades were all that great. Cuts were fairly clean but not too quick. In comparison to another brand of 4 1/2" blades it was obvious. Overall cuts were about on par with my 7 1/2" battery circular saw with a narrow kerf blade.

The saw shoe is sturdy and keeps it's angle when adjusted. All metal levers are a big advantage over some with plastic ones.

I have yet had the need to cut metal or tile but  imagine that with better quality blades it should cut those materials adequately.

The saw has a very long cord which is great when ripping a 4’X8' panel. I measured  10' 6" which is better than most of my full size corded saws.

The kit bag is handy and easily holds extra blades and whatever.

A vacuum adapter is included which fits very snugly on the metal dust discharge hole. One would need a 1 3/8" lightweight vac hose for practical use. A standard shop-vac hose would not work well.

Overall I like this saw quite a lot. Good for panels and up to 2X 4 cuts. What I did not care for is the clamp on hand grip. While it does provide extra control and stability it makes using the switch for the laser rather awkward.

Another gripe I have with this, and many small saws, is the cut off in relation to the shoe.  For a right handed user, having the blade on the right and more of the base on the left results in more confident cuts. Don't know why everything else is designed for right hand control but this.

Bottom line: with it's few caveats, a good saw to supplement one's collection.

Great Small Tool with so many uses

I always toyed with the idea as to whether I would need such a tool as this, so when I saw it I had to order it.
I am glad I did. It is so easy to use and there are so many things this can be used for. I haven't got any projects on the go at the moment so I cut a few odds and ends in my garage. I do plan to tile my bathroom later this year and can see that I will be using this tool for that.
You have everything you need in this one set. Six blades are included that cut wood, plastic, metal, tile etc. I like the optional handle that this comes with. I know they advertise that you can use one hand, I would rather not myself. Maybe it is just the way I am but I am comfortable using both hands. It is not too heavy for someone like me but I can see this being pretty heavy for some who will not be able to use this with just one hand. I love the bag that this comes with, you have to remove the handle from the saw for everything to fit comfortably but that's easy to do. The bag around the zipper is reinforced inside with what I guess is a metal rod to keep the shape of the bag. Another bonus about the bag are the three pockets on the outside.
I really love the fact that this has a laser and I am sure it will be invaluable while using this tool. I like the ease of being able to change the depth and the angle of the blade.
The instructions were very hard to read. The small print is ridiculous and I had to get a magnifier to be able to read it, maybe it's my age. I was trying to find out if there was a place to keep the hex key on the saw. I eventually found it and have included a picture of that.
Overall I really do love this tool and I know I will be using it a lot in the future.
The reason I am only giving this a four star rating is that I do feel this is a little bit on the pricey side compared to other corded compact circular saws that are on the market.

Well-made, high-quality

If this saw were brushless I would give it five stars, but that would push the price up considerably. Brush-type motors have been around forever and are very reliable.
On the plus side, the blade is square to the base, the handle is easy to install and use, it has a generous 10-foot cord with a storage clip for the included Allen wrench, and a handy reminder on the blade retainer that the screw is left-hand thread. The laser is manually switched on and off.
The guide notch lines up with the edge of the blade and your line, but the laser will take the line. That will take getting used to. I didn't see any obvious means to adjust it.
Maybe this is nit-picky, but the vacuum adapter is at 90°, making it awkward to connect a vacuum hose to. Also, I'd like to see a knurled knob on the guide retainer, but at least it's the same size as the Allen wrench.
This is a quality tool with plenty of power. I plan to install a backsplash in the kitchen soon and the tile blade will be handy for cutting notches for outlets.
